Why it’s time to ditch the aerosol dry shampoos
Aerosol hair products have long been used in the hair industry for styling and setting hair. Aerosol dry shampoos have been extremely popular as a cheap and time efficient way to clean hair without a water wash.
However in recent years there has been a huge shift away from aerosols in beauty and hair products due to the negative environmental and health consequeces of aerosol products.
Here are just a few of the reasons why it’s time to ditch your aerosol dry shampoo:
- Aerosols have less product
DId you know that 60-90% of what is actually in an aerosol can is LPG’s (Liquid Petroleum Gas) which is compressed gasses? Not only do these gasses significantly add to our carbon footprint and contribute to global warming! It also means that you are getting cheated out of a whole bottle of product – only 10-40% of the can is the actual product!
- Aerosols contain butane and propane
Did you know your scalp absorbs more chemicals than the rest of your body? Aerosols contain propane and butane, they are chemical propellants used to propel the contents out of the can ( they are also the same gasses used to fire up your BBQ!) This might be something to consider when spraying an aerosol dry shampoo on your scalp if this is a prime area of toxin absorption!
- Aerosol dry shampoos can cause hair loss
Traditional dry shampoo works by coating the hair follicles with the liquid petroleum gas and chemicals, leaving the follicle inflamed. Without proper cleansing and exfoliating of the scalp this inflammation makes the follicle weaker and can result in hair loss or thinning over time.
